With the success of the 2012 “Ride for Ali” and the overwhelming support from the community, the Deputy Sheriff’s Foundation has decided to make this an annual event raising funds for the foundation and injured deputies.
The first ride directly benefited Ali Perez and Craig Johnson, deputies injured in a highly publicized gun battle in 2012. Hundreds of riders from the greater Southern California law enforcement community, as well as many motorcycle enthusiasts from our local community, came out to show their support. This year, both Det. Perez and Sgt. Johnson have returned to help turn this amazing event into an annual fundraiser for the Critical Incident Support and the foundation.
This ride, which has become known as the “Save the Bacon Ride”, will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013. Just as the “Wounded Warriors Project” and other similar fantastic organizations have done great things for our returning injured veterans, “Save the Bacon” will spearhead the foundation’s efforts to provide similar relief, in part, for our local heroes who have been wounded in the line of duty and the immediate needs that arise from critical incidents. Unfortunately, this need has grown this past year with four deputies seriously wounded in gun battles while keeping our San Diego Communities safe.
